Howdy Campers and Camp Families!
We had a great first day of camp!! We started off the day meeting our counselors and volunteers outside the welcome center. Grace Johnson, Chloe Heunisch, and Ashley Desai are our three camp counselors for this summer.
The campers each got a helmet and listened to the counselors talk about the camp rules. After that, we learned how to groom a horse! Grace's group worked with Pete, Ashley's group worked with Rosie Girl, and Chloe had Zorro. What was your favorite part of grooming?
Next, the campers got to ride! All three groups learned how to tell their horses to stop and go. They were all naturals! They played some games and went out on the trails.
We played two games today that taught us a little bit more about the Little Bit herd. One was played outside where we got to explore the paddocks and fill out a scavenger hunt that had questions about some of the horses here. Do you guys remember the names of three fjords? Then we went in to the barn and explored the stalls. We were given cards and set out on a task to label the oldest, youngest, tallest, shortest, and heaviest horse. We also learned a bit more about some barn lingo, can yall remember the difference between a gelding and a mare?
Thanks for a great first day of camp! Please email me at jdove@littlebit.org if you have any questions or concerns. See you tomorrow for another fun packed day!! We have some more great activities planned!
Please remember to pack a lunch, snack, WATER, and proper clothing for your camper (tennis shoes or boots & pants comfortable for riding). Shorts are okay to wear when the campers are not riding. Make sure your campers have a comfortable mask to wear, and that both you and your camper(s) have masks anytime they are on Little Bit property.
Sincerely,
Jordan Dove
Camp Coordinator
